The Problem
Sourdough baking is a complex process that requires understanding, precise timing, and consistency. But in reality, most bakers- beginners and experienced alike-
face a lot of uncertainty.
Information is scattered, existing tools are partial and not personalized, and there’s no single platform that guides users throughout the process in a clear, simple, and reassuring way.

Hard to keep track of every step
Feeding, dough rising, folding, baking- so many precise steps.
Without clear guidance, it’s easy to get confused or miss something.
Too many tools- no real connection
A journal here, a recipe there, a timer app, a spreadsheet, and maybe a Facebook group-
Jumping between tools with no one app makes it chaotic and overwhelming.
Tons of info- little clarity
There’s endless advice and recipes online, but it’s hard to know what fits your level
what trustworthy, and where to even begin.
Low confidence- and lots of guessing
Without step-by-step support, bakers are left alone to make dozens of small decisions that affect the outcome. Many end up frustrated- or even giving up on the process altogether.
Research
To explore the world of sourdough baking and understand its challenges, I used three research methods:
Online Exploration
I explored everything the internet has to offer – blogs, videos, communities,
and recipes.
Competitive App Analysis
I reviewed existing sourdough apps to understand the tools and features they offer, and what kind of user experience they provide.
User Survey
I conducted a survey among bakers at various levels to learn about their challenges,
needs, and baking habits.
Personas
Based on my research, I mapped 3 types of users to reflect on them when making decisions.

Findings
In my analysis of existing apps, I found that most platforms only offer a partial experience- a recipe, a timer, or a blog.
But not a complete and connected solution.
From users themselves, I learned that they struggle with planning the process, experience uncertainty at different stages, and have difficulty staying consistent.
They are looking for simple, clear guidance, reminders to help build a routine, and a supportive community where they can ask questions, share recipes, and even exchange dough starters.
Bottom Line
Users need a simple, accessible all-in-one platform that guides them through the entire sourdough journey with confidence.

User Flow
The idea began with a personal need for clear and reliable guidance- especially for a process like sourdough baking that takes over 24 hours.
Instead of reading steps online and guessing,
I wanted a step-by-step experience with a
built-in notification system to keep users on track and ensure nothing gets missed.
The flow includes an intro screen with ingredients and adjustable quantities, a linear step system with the option to go back, short videos, tips like scoring and proofing, and a dynamic baguette that visualizes progress.
The goal was to turn a complex process into a simple, accessible, and intuitive experience-designed for everyone, at any level.
